I've Decided to Purchase...

...a handgun. Yes, i finally made the decision to do it. For years, i've said that I wouldn't get one because I didn't want to ever have to use it, but things have changed. Two weeks ago, I came home to my apartment complex to find 6 police cars outside my building. They were pretty mum on telling us what exactly went on, but I found out that one of my neighbors had been the victim of a home invasion and sexual assault. I'm not sure of all of the details, but as of now, she is doing ok.

So i'm in the market for a handgun and I just have to do some research to find out what kind I should get.

Any suggestion?

Get something that will leave a huge gaping hole in whoever is gonna cross you. Make sure you can handle the gun's kick back and make sure it's loud!

My personal fave is a semi-automatic 9 mm. "9 milli hit that liver make that body shiver."

Sawed off shotgun will do the trick too. But sometimes you just want to instill fear, so get you a good calibrated taser too.

My advice for buying a firearm is, to get the proper training when you buy the weapon. A gun that is never or rarely fired is useless. Take a class, practice and be very familiar with your gun. Must gun shops can help identify the right gun for you and point you in the right direction for getting trained.

It's your right to protect yourself. I sit by my laptop and I can be pounced upon at any time. We all want to be safe and if this makes you...get it.

Studies have shown that civilians that own firearms are distraught to find their weapon used on an innocent victim - unsuspecting child, humorous friend, etc.

That said, if you must, you must.

First, don't do anything illegal...get a license, get some great training and keep the weapon secured at all times.

Second, know that you are better off having a dog AND an alarm that can alert you and professionals of an intruder than a gun that will be found by your conscious assailant while you snooze in the middle of the night. Nothing like waking up to the barrel of your own .9 staring back at ya'.

Good luck kid...hope that there is never a future blog written from a state facility OR worse a news story telling of an unfortunate disaster with another handgun in civilian hands.

Keep passin' the open windows...and hopefully, you'll keep passin' the gun shop as well.

I think anything you get will do the job. But I think regardless of the kind of gun you buy, you need to exponentially increase the amount of liability insurance you have. Your home owner's or renter's insurance policy can add a million dollar rider for only a few extra dollars on top of what you are already paying.

Even though a sucker may attack you or threaten your home, he or she still can sue you if you shoot them (or in the event they die, their survivors can sue you) for civil monetary damages regardless of whether or not they incur criminal charges. You want to protect yourself, and liability insurance is a must if you have a gun.

Protection at home? Get a nice inexpensive 12 gauge Mossberg pump shotgun and load it with number 9 shotshells. Easy to hit the target. One shot knockdowns. Any number 9 pellets not absorbed by the target will not go through more than 1 layer of sheetrock, which the peeps in the next apartment will find comforting.

Handguns require a higher level of skill to utilize in a tactical situation and, without a lot of training, you will not have the presence of mind to hit the target in the stress of a home invasion situation.

Oh wow...that's crazy about the assault in your complex. You know a few months back I would've been all anti-gun but this guy I hooked up with all but convinced me to go to a shooting range, so my stance has changed somewhat. Besides we do need protection.
